Everybody loves a good story," states Kevin Pike.
Witness his explanation of how he got into the film business:

"It was the summer of 1974, and I had a job busing tables at the Harborside restaurant in Martha's Vineyard. On a particular Saturday evening, a movie scout crew came in and sat at one of the tables. After dinner, they paid their bill and left, but somebody had left a valise under the table; I found the owner and returned it to him -- he just happened to be the Production Designer, and was intensely grateful because the valise contained the storyboards for a movie, soon to be made, called 'Jaws'. That chance meeting ultimately turned into a job as a local hire: my first film job was sweeping the dirt floor of the shed where the boat, Orca, was built. That summer I worked as a laborer, a carpenter, a painter, and a glorified gopher, and ultimately ended up working with the special effects crew on the shark. I was fascinated by the whole process of film-making, and so excited about being a part of it that, as soon as the show was done, I came right out to Hollywood."

Focusing on Special Effects brought Kevin to the position of Special Effects Supervisor by 1977, just three short years after working on "Jaws." He relates his own experience, "I had an opportunity to work with veteran Special Effects men under the studio system. If you were any good, you got to help out on a little show, and then a bigger show, until you were off on your own. I was pretty lucky, so I went on to supervise some respectable films, working with Steven Spielberg again and other prominent directors -- Robert Zemeckis, John Schlesinger, Tim Burton, Taylor Hackford and David Fincher, to name a few."       MORE...
